GFWAust provided underpining of the historic brick kilns and support of the weathered sandstone batter.
A brand new development of luxury townhouses and apartments by Southern Cross Constructions located on the former Brookvale Brickworks site in the NSW Southern Highlands. The modern world has crept up around The Kilns and created a unique contrast in time and space with 21st century shopping complexes, sporting arenas, golf courses and world class surf beaches all within close proximity
The brickworks were built in 1910 and were in operation from 1914 until 1997 when the land was rezoned. The new development includes demolition and rebuilding of the original chimney and incorporation of the heritage kilns which have apartments built on top of them.GFWAust were responsible for the foundation grouting of the underlying sand to underpin the dilapidated brick arch of the old kilns. This was carried out using microfine cements through injection spears to produce mini-piles. Difficulties permeating the cohesive soils was overcome by preboring the piles.
When the building development was nearly completed the developer, Southern Cross Constructions, became concerned over the stability of some sandstone batters at the back of the site. The weathered sandstone was washing sand and silt into the drains causing them to block.
GFWAust provided the solution with the application of a elastometric cementitious spray. Particular care had to be given to the finnished buildings and grounds aswell as the nearby waterways and forested areas.
