GFWAust provided backfill grouting into the voids beneath the factory floor
The closing of the Consolidated Extrusions workshop in Ingleburn and its conversion to a storage warehouse required the removal of some very large plant and equipment. Much of this plant was installed in recesses in the concrete floor. These recesses were backfilled with a concrete backfill, however there were concerns over the voids left in some under floor spaces which would limit the surface loading and its potential use a storage facility.
GFWAust were commissioned to design and carry out a backfill exercise to fill the voids beneath the floor to enable the floor space to undertake uniform loading. A bentonite cement grout was determined as the most appropriate and over 10m3 of grout was pumped into the subsurface voids whilst the plant and equipment was being removed in other areas of the building.
