Advice on ground improvement for tower foundations.
The ElectraNet transmission network had an unusual situation where ground improvement was required to increase the soil strength/density of some historic backfill for some gravity pad transmission line footings
Usually the pad would be excavated with concrete. However, at these sites there were some cultural and environmental access constraints and the client wanted to limit visible disturbance.
Site is located about 40km west of Mannum, South Australia
Ground conditions were sandy clay and silty sand so permeation grouting was not feasible. A soil mixing solution was proposed.
