In 2007 GFWAust provided precision grouting to repair and plug a leaking penstock pipe beneath the tailings dam at the CSA Mine Cobar.
In 2011 GFWAust were appointed to grout up an underground raisebore pilot hole requiring over 30m3 of precision grout.
The CSA mine is located 14 kilometres northwest of Cobar, along the Louth Road. The CSA Mine is now operated by Cobar Management Pty Limited (CMPL) an Australian company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Glencore International who reopend the mine in February 1999. The mine was originally a lead/zinc deposit but is today chiefly a copper mine as the ore has changed with depth. The mine currently mines over 800,00 tonnes per annum. The ore is predominantly chalcopyrite, which produces a concentrate containing approximately 29% copper. The ore is processed on site and the tailings are deposited in large surface tailings dams. Water filtration through the tailings dams is taken by penstocks on the downstream side of the dam.
In 2007 it was noticed that one of these penstocks was leaking causing a large build up of water at the toe of one section of the dam wall. GFWAust were appointed to repair and grout up this pipe. The pipe is a reinforced concrete pipe 300mm diameter, at a depth of about 15m below the surface of the tailings dam. Water leakage from the pipe was in the order of 50L/min. From a pit on the downstream side of the dam the pipe was exposed, repaired and plugged, and then pressure grouted with over 2000 litres of precision grout.
In 2011 RaiseBore Australia were appointed to excavate the 200m deep 9240 Shaft. Due to the high insitu stress the pilot hole deformed and required grouting up. GFWAust were appointed to grout up the hole requiring over 30m3 of precision grout to achieve a strength of 32Mpa.
