GFWAust were appointed to carry out permeation grouting to install a wall of grout columns to enable excavation works to proceed and to underpin shallow foundations on sand.
Arcon Australia were the developer for refurbishment to the Clovelly Hotel at Clovelly in Sydney. Excavation of the basement for a new bathroom area identified the bearing walls were founded on shallow footings on sand. GFWAust were asked to provide a solution to stabilise the sand to enable excavation to continue and to underpin the load bearing walls.GFWAust carried out permeation grouting with microfine cement to install a row of columns along the upper side of the sand to enable excavation to proceed, and underpinning of the basement walls. Excavation was then able to proceed to a depth of 3m without further shoring or support.
